Review | Out Last Night: 30 Seconds To Mars at The House of Blues

I woke this morning with the image of Jared Leto’s flailing limbs hoisted amidst a sea of pumping fits on my mind, reminiscing on 30 Second to Mars’ second show in a two night stand at the House of Blues. Frontman Jared Leto made it clear rock veterans were in The House. After thirteen years of experience, he owns every inch of the venue stage. Blood loyal fans lined the walls as Leto let the room flood with their voices line after line. Lights cut through the crowd as voices reverberated off the walls, and we all came together in a jump house jamboree.

Leto not only stole the spotlight in last night’s House of Blues’ concert, but he allied the audience in a request to start moshing. If only they could. The crowd was too involved hoisting each other up on their shoulders and clutching their fists against their chest to do anything of the sort. Leto may have wanted a rage, but he got euphoria instead, as the crowd continued to jump, pump, and chant as he sang.

God, did Leto sing, belting his ballads the way he’s famous for, but it was his on stage etiquette that kept the crowd knee deep in each other’s excitement. He’d cut into songs to demand more noise, and rearrange the crowd as he replaced front row texters with crazed back row thrashers, calling for more, more, and more jumping. At times, even the singer seemed to tire, egging the crowd on to sing while he coughed out word by word between breaths with the audience.

Mars came back for one more song along with half the audience by their side. Leto sang “Kings and Queens” with the swaying and screaming of at least a third of his fans behind him on stage. 30 seconds to Mars brought a juggernaut of lights and music to the House of Blues, so much so that the show left me longing for a larger venue. A little advice for the band: next time in Dallas, do one show, but go big.

5 questions to Jared Leto (30 Seconds To Mars)

Rock star told us about his childhood, disadvantages and love to music.

Bravo: Tell honestly- have you always wanted to be actor and musician?

Jared: Already from my childhood I have known that my destiny is art. I have always felt dislike to “normal life”. I have never wanted to have a usual job and been only a piece of large machine. I have wanted to tried different things, tasted a life. Because of this being artist, actor, musician have always been an ideal solution.

Bravo: How mention you your childhood?

Jared: I brought up in poor family. We were tramps and we moved again and again. My mom worked as photographer and she liked to travel. When I was little, I lived in different states: I was born on a south of USA, in Louisiana, but them we moved to north, on Alaska. For a while we even lived in Brazil and Haiti. My childhood was like travel of dream, full of adventures, but difficult challenges too.

Bravo: Why new album of you band is called “This Is War”?Jared: For some past years we non-stop fought- with journalists, critics and labels. It was real war! Ferocious, brutal and bloody. We fought with everyone, who wanted to change us. We don’t like, when someone has an influence on us against to our beliefs. Finally we struck up a peace, but we are pleased that we attempted a fight, because this make us stronger as a band.

Bravo: Do heard this on your new album?

Jared: It seems to me. Fans, who contact with me, approach our music and sound very emotionally. I have talked with soldiers, who got back from Iraq. They said that the only one, what let them, even for a while, forget about horror of war, was our songs. It’s only show, such power music can have.

Bravo: Do you have any disadvantages?

Jared: I do anything for bottle of… spicy sauce. I spice its everything. I know that this is unhealthy, but I’m addict to this.

Prémios NME | Nomeações

Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Foals and Biffy Clyro are among the acts nominated for this year’s Shockwaves NME Awards.

The full nominations list for the honours are listed below – voting is open now at NME.COM/awards.

The winners will be announced at the ceremony at the O2 Academy Brixton on February 23.

Foals have five nominations in total, including nods for Best British Band and Best Album, while Arcade Fire are nominated for four.

Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and Biffy Clyro are also up for the Best British Band honour, along with last year’s winnersMuse.

Along with Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian, Paramore and Bombay Bicycle Club were among the winners at last year’s ceremony.

Dave Grohl is set to be crowned Godllike Genius at this year’s event. He’s then set to headline the NME Awards Big Gig with Foo Fighters on February 25 at London Wembley Arena, with Cee Lo Green, Band Of Horses and No Agealso on the bill.
